Bestival is 15 in 2018, so we’re heading to Bristol on Mayday bank holiday Saturday to celebrate a decade and a half of in-the-fields innovation and professional partying all condensed into 15 sweet hours of feasting, performance, imagination and music. Taking our Sunday Best roots and vintage Bestival vibes and infusing them with the finest Bristolian flavours, expect a magical mix of the old and the new, cast enticingly across four amazing venues.
It’s never too early to start the party, so join us for a deliciously lurid Drag Brunch at Jamaica St. Stores serving from midday to 3.30pm. There are no culinary or cultural boundaries when it comes to this bawdy Bestival brunch so come and get stuck into expert lip syncs, fabulous games, prizes of all shapes and sizes and some truly service-stopping numbers. With scrumptious food and performances from Shay Shay, 3rd Girl, Orange Gina & Ariel Bold, pre-booking is most certainly advised. Head to jamaicastreetstores.com to secure your place.
Bestival’s sister label and forebear Sunday Best will take over Rough Trade Bristol between 1 and 6pm showcasing exceptional live performances from the Isle of Wight’s Plastic Mermaids, SB signing Laucan, and Norwich garage band ladies, Graceland. Plus, there will be screen printing workshops, limited edition merchandise, Bestival FM radio broadcasts and much more and, it’s free entry to boot.
While the raucous rock n roll resounds around Rough Trade, we’ll be heading to The Christmas Steps for an 99p Knees Up partying all day in the back yard. Hitting the decks from 3pm and dropping dancefloor bombs until 10pm, we have music from High Contrast performing a very special Northern Soul Set, Sunday Best and Bestival founder Rob da Bank, girl about town Tasty Lopez and Hold Tight Records. Just like the original Sunday Best parties that laid the foundations for 15 years of Bestival good times, door tax is a 99p minimum donation – with all proceeds going to Caring in Bristol.
And wrapping up our 15 Hours in Bristol from 10pm we’ll be firmly tongue in cheek at The Love Inn with The Grand Palace In cahoots with Bitch, Please!, and a scurrilous selection of ribald and raunchy turns that could make a docker blush. Don’t miss heart fluttering, junk strutting club action with ZenZero, Butch Queen, Carmen Monoxide, Duchess Dominique Fleek, Kiki House of Lavolta, Fidel and more! Free entry till midnight then £4 after.
Mark your cards and make a date to join us on Saturday 5th May as we celebrate 15 glorious years of Bestival in 15 incredible hours in Bristol.
