When The xx first played Bestival in 2010 they almost brought the festival to a standstill with thousands of people ramming the Big Top and thousands more watching the screens outside, it was without doubt a landmark moment for both the band and for us here at Bestival.
For the band it was the culmination of years of hard work putting together their mesmerising debut album and seeing it embraced by so many people, for us, pride that a band that we’d loved since they first broke was causing such astonishing scenes on their Bestival debut.
In 2012 they returned, this time playing the main stage at sunset with a set of epic perfection that held tens of thousands rapt and completely blew us away. Since then the band have been on a brief hiatus which has seen Jamie cement his reputation as one of the most talented producers in the world with the release of his solo album, but now The xx are back, with a new album ‘I See You’ and of course we had no hesitation in inviting them to headline Friday night at this year’s Bestival.
It’s always special when one of our favourite bands headlines the festival but this year is going to be extra special as Romy, Oli and Jamie take to our Castle Stage for what promises to be one of the greatest shows in the festival’s history.
