Songhoy Blues

Hailing from Timbuktu in Mali, Songhoy Blues have had an explosive couple of years since the release of their debut record ‘Music in Exile’ in 2015.

Forced from their homes by an oppressive regime that completely banned music, the three members Oumar, Aliou, Garba took refuge in the south of Mali and Songhoy Blues were born from this adversity.

Their break came when they were asked to audition for Damon Albarn’s Africa Express, before being invited to record a song with Yeah Yeah Yeah’s guitarist Nick Zinner which ended up becoming the opening track on the Africa Express album.

Picked up by Transgressive Records the band are now two albums into a celebrated career that has seen them take their unique desert blues sound around the world, quickly becoming one of Africa’s most successful musical exports.
