The year may be little more than a month old but DIY disco/pop trio Patawawa (Rory Lovatt, Sam Wilmot and Beth Garrett) are already making a strong case that 2018 belongs to them. Exploding out of Matlock, Derbyshire the band’s infectious rhythms, glittered guitar riffs and pop nous has already caught the attention of tastemakers including The Line of Best Fit, Clash DIY, The Guardian and NME who featured the band in their ‘100 Best Bands of 2018’ feature.
Having whetted our appetites with a succession of singles for new French imprint Splinter in 2017, Patawawa have cemented their reputation with the release of their debut EP. Named after the humble space where all their songs have, to date, been written and recorded, the Bedroom’ EP features 5 tracks guaranteed to light up any dancefloor ranging from the party starting Hype Machine #1 ‘Patagonia’ to the slower groove of ‘Song For Sam’, the French House inspired ‘Humpback’ and the melancholy disco of ‘Lonely’.
The kind of band that can look at the reflections of car lights in the puddles of a provincial English town high street & see the bright lights of Downtown Manhattan, Patawawa’s music is just like the original disco from the 1970s the perfect escape from a world spinning out of control.
