DJ, writer, producer, broadcaster, Eddie Piller is a true legend of the British music scene.
In 1980 he started fanzine and record label Extraordinary Sensations, before decamping to Stiff records as label manager. A stint as manager of the James Taylor Quartet would change everything for Eddie though as it led to him teaming up with Gilles Peterson to establish one of the UK s most celebrated record lables, Acid Jazz, giving us the likes of Jamiroquai, the Brand New Heavies and Snowboy to name just a few.
In 1993 Piller opened the ground-breaking nightclub, The Blue Note. In London s extremely unfashionable Hoxton (a place known more for its bomb sites that its culture) – the club became a major success (winning the Time Out club of the millennium award) and kick-started the careers of Goldie and Talvin Singh amongst others – whilst changing the face of east London s Shoreditch/Hoxton triangle into the art and culture centre it is today.
