DJ Cal Jader is one of the musical activists, founders and original ‘dancehall caballeros’ behind London cultural protagonists Movimientos. With his trademark blend of red hot ‘classico’ latin beats, uptempo carnival rhythms, tropical bass, and fresh global sounds he is helping to soundtrack the thriving underground scene with residencies across the capital.
He’s played at clubs and festivals around the globe as far a field as Mexico City, Beirut, Kuala Lumpar, Istanbul and toured all around Brazil. In the UK he’s played everywhere from countless festivals like Bestival and Glastonbury and The Secret Garden Party, and has shared stages with world class live acts like Manu Chao, Bomba Estereo, Ska Cubano and Calle 13.
As a super active club promoter in London he’s DJ’d on bills alongside many big names from the new tropical scene including Toy Selectah, Quantic, Nickodemus, Philippe Solal Cohen (Gotan Project), Joao Brasil, Maga Bo, Sabo, DJ Tudo, DJ Panko (Ojos De Brujo).
He’s also the founder of the new label Movimientos Records and is championing the new wave of latin, tropical and global music in the UK with releases from groundbreaking acts Los Chinches and Wara. Cal has also recently compiled the Beginner’s Guide to Latin America on Nascente Records and programmes music for various festival stages around the UK. He also runs a bi-weekly Latin alternative show on London’s SOAS Radio – also broadcasted on Groovalizacion Radio.
