Bestival are pleased to welcome hip-hop pioneers and all round legends A Tribe Called Quest as our Saturday night Castle Stage headliners.
Since the release of their debut album ‘People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm’ in 1990, Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Jarobi White and the late, great Phife Dawg redefined the way the world saw hip-hop, bringing an intelligence to the art form which had never been seen before, they joined De La Soul in the early nineties jazz-rap revolution, immediately scoring global hits with ‘Can I Kick It’ and ‘Bonita Applebum’.
The band basically ruled the nineties, soundtracking the decade with a further four albums of era defining hip hop, including ‘Beats, Rhymes and Life’, considered by many to be the greatest hip-hop record ever made, before going their separate ways, all achieving untold success outside of the group.
Last year was a bittersweet one for the band as they reformed to release their first record in almost 2 decades, the incredible ‘We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service’ which was released just a few months after the tragic death of founding member Phife Dawg, the album now stands as a memorial to Phife and a testament to just how talented these guys always were.
Their show at Bestival promises to be an extra special occasion as one the greatest hip-hop groups on the planet takes to the stage for their last ever UK show, to celebrate life, love and music as only A Tribe Called Quest knows how.
