The Breeders

Much more than a side project, The Breeders were originally conceived as a way for Pixies bassist Kim Deal and Throwing Muses guitarist Tanya Donelly to let out some suppressed creative energy. After the recording of their critically acclaimed first album Pod, Donelly left to pursue other avenues and was replaced by Deal’s sister Kelley.

Shortly following this the demise of the Pixies allowed everyone to concentrate all of their energies into The Breeders and this was justly rewarded with the release of their second album Last Splash which contained their first crossover hit Cannonball. The single and album sold in huge numbers and the band were catapulted into stardom, supporting Nirvana on tour before going on to headline major tours and festivals in their own right throughout the mid nineties before the band slid into a self imposed extended hiatus.

2008 sees them back with a vengeance with a new album entitled Mountain Battles and a world tour that thankfully includes them lighting up the Friday line up at Bestival 2008.
