Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong
"I Want our music to be inclusive – the goal is to have a nine-year-old girl and 80-year-old man in a different country dancing at the same time. There doesn’t need to be a dichotomy between what cool kids like and what little kids like. I just want to make people kiss". So speaks Joe Lean, lead singer of Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong, on their five man mission to bring back to the heart of pop.
The band formed in 2006 when Joe, then juggling drumming duties with The Pipettes with a rather promising acting career (featuring appearances in Nathan Barley and Peep Show), decided he needed an outlet for the effervescent pop symphonies that he had been writing. Luckily he didn’t have to look far – "I realised I knew the three best guitarists in the country and managed to get one of them to play bass". After nearly a year intensive writing and rehearsal, Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong played their first show in early 2007. After only a handful more gigs the buzz on London’s music scene was that deafening – a truly special band had arrived and this summer sees them arriving down at Camp Bestival to make you dance and kiss each other, whoever you are.
