Bestival Charities

The Bestival Foundation

Bestival organisers are delighted to announce that The Bestival Foundation, a brand new registered charity, has been launched with the aim of improving Isle of Wight life through a series of exciting and ground-breaking initiatives. The Bestival Foundation work in conjunction with The Footprint Trust charity to fund a programme of education that will teach local Isle of Wight schoolchildren about water saving and help move local schools towards their eco-school goal. This Bestival Foundation’s ‘Adopt A Bottle’ scheme will see every Island schoolchild aged Under 16 presented with a free Josie da Bank designed strong and fully recycled water bottle to adopt as their own within the next 3 years. The bottle is made from PIR recycling (post industrial recycling) - all the materials are by-products from other industrial processes.

The Footprint Trust Ltd

A not-for-profit company and a registered charity, based on the Isle of Wight dedicated to working with the Island’s community to promote the benefits of sustainable living. This is achieved through various projects and activities that raise awareness of all relevant issues, embodying the ideal of “acting locally and thinking globally."

Oxfam

Oxfam will once again provide our wonderfully helpful Bestival stewards. Having these friendly folk on site helps Oxfam raise money for its many important charitable activities around the globe – together we make the world, and Bestival a better place. Oxfam will be asking for a show of hands from the thousands of music fans at Bestival, all ready to get some ink in the name of poverty. Show true support for Humankind by getting their rock and roll FAIR DEAL knuckle tattoo, having your photo taken, and joining a global movement of people who want those in poverty to be treated fairly in the face of climate change.

10:10

10:10 is an ambitious project to unite every sector of society behind one simple idea: cutting all of our emissions by 10% starting in 2010. We at Bestival care deeply about the environment and are proud of our ‘Outstanding' Greener Festival Award in 2009 so think it's a fantastic campaign to get involved with, which is why we've signed up to it and you can too at the 10:10m Tent in the Bollywood Field.

Amnesty International

Mr Trolley collaborates with Amnesty International again this year bringing you a trolley hire service to help to get your gear into and out of the festival. Twenty percent of proceeds will go to Amnesty International. So, not only is it easier to get set up and ready to have fun, your donation will go towards helping get our message out to protect people whenever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied.

Breast Cancer Campaign / Isle of Pink

An amazing charity that provides funding for Breast Cancer research, a cause very close to our hearts here at Bestival HQ. This September they will be transforming the Isle of Wight into the Isle of Pink for the third year running … look out for the big pink star at the entrance to the Fire Field for Bestival’s contribution to this and visit them at the tent nearby for all things pink!

Swim To Bestival

12 brave people got to the island not by ferry, luxury yacht or helicopter but by swimming across the difficult and chilly waters of the Solent. Each participant, including Simon from Basement Jaxx, is raising money for the own charity and will welcome donations after the weekend. Please go to swim2bestival.blogspot.com to find out more and to give generously.

IOW Youth Trust

The Bestival welfare team is expertly run by the Isle of Wight Youth Trust. The trust was established 26 years ago to provide information, advice, counselling and support to children, young people and their families. If you should become separated from a child or misplace any property, look out for the welfare tents around the site so the team can help you.

Solace

The Solace is a place to chat, play cards, listen to music, have a foot wash or just relax – everyone and anyone welcome.

Samaritans

While most of you will be having a great time, there will be some that aren’t and Samaritans offer 24 hour, non-judgemental, face to face listening service throughout Bestival in the campsite. Whatever you're going through, whether it's big or small, don't bottle it up. Samaritans are there for you if you're worried about something, feel upset or confused, or just want to talk to someone.

IOW Scouts – tent salvage

We really hope you all take your tent away with you and leave your camping area clean but for those that don’t, the Isle of Wight Scouts will retrieve those tents that will work and provide shelter for someone who needs it. The Scouting movement provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for 400,000 young people aged 6-25 in the UK. It gives young people responsibilities, a chance to work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves.

Quay Arts

The Quay Arts art-for-all tent welcomes all at Bestival to come on in and get involved. The Quay Arts Centre in Newport is the Isle of Wight’s leading art gallery and venue for live arts events. It is a charity that supports art on the island and is also supported by The Arts Council of England and the Isle of Wight Council.

We Are What We Do

We Are What We Do, the social movement behind the 'I'm not a Plastic Bag' shopper and ‘History Pin’, will unleash their latest creation onto Bestival this weekend: a massive, fantastical, trash-guzzling creature, with a penchant for recyclable waste. Part monster, part foodie snob, he’ll be roaming the festival munching cigarette butts, paper plates, plastic cups and tin cans out of the hands of festival partiers. And as a sign of his appreciation he will be leaving his bite-mark on anyone that feeds him their rubbish. Bestival are not responsible for any limbs lost.

Pants to Poverty

Pants to Poverty aims to break every single pants-related Guinness World record at Bestival as well launching the global campaign targeting the United Nations around the New Millennium Fashion Goals to engage the industry in beautifully eradicating poverty and its contribution to climate change. Pants will be on sale at their stall - all profits from sales at Bestival will be donated to the Pi Foundation to support taking kids out of forced child labour and into school. Get your pants, wear them proudly with nothing else on, jump up and down and go large too.

Childreach International

Our young grass roots charity works together with over 70,000 children to improve their access to healthcare, education, child rights and protection, putting the child and their communities at the centre of development, working in genuine partnership with locals who best understand the issues facing the developing world.

The WMD Awareness Programme will be making and displaying paper birds, each carrying a unique reason why we can and should be building a safer future free of nuclear weapons.

Save the Children

Join their EVERY ONE campaign to help save millions of children's lives. Children in Afghanistan face the worst chance of survival anywhere in the world - 1 in 4 die before their 5th birthday, which we want to reduce significantly so these children and their families have more hope of a greater future. Show your support by taking part in the jigsaw and ‘make your mark’ canvas.
