Toots and the Maytals

Reggae legends Toots and the Maytals spent the majority of the sixties and seventies producing hit after hit, sitting pretty at the top of the Jamaican musical tree.

While they were surrounded by a plethora of other acts around that time, one thing set them aside from the pack, their passion and their soul, retaining an element of gospel in their sound even as the basslines and dub became more and more a part of the scene.

With hits including Do You Reggay (containing the first ever use of the word reggae), Pressure Drop, 54-56 That’s My Number, Sweet and Dandy and Monkey Man have continued over the last 4 decades to be one of Reggae and Ska’s most enduring presences.
