Sly and Reggie and the Middle Class Soundsystem
Sly and Reggie's mission is to bring Middle Class Dub to the world. On their much loved black Morris Minor Pickup they toast and sing and rant on issues such as Celebrity Charity, the Redgrave Dynasty and the Squeezed Middle.Taking inspiration from Charley Ace's Swing - A - Ling mobile reggae sound system in Kingston Jamaica, Sly and Reggie first took to the streets in their hometown of East Dulwich South London in 2009 with a generator and pile of old speakers. Increasing in confidence they ventured to central London to annoy the likes of Carter Ruck and Trafigura and the Nick Clegg campaign bus in flashmob dub protests.
In 2010 the Suburban Pirate label released their debut album, Middle Class Dub Volume One putting them in the frontline of socially conscious reggae and dub producers and musicians.
The Guardian noticed that "Sly and Reggie boom and clatter like a south-east London Mike Skinner with a subscription to Private Eye and an access-all-areas pass for the latest Jah Shaka tour"
In 2011 they recorded their second album Sly and Reggie Vs The World (Middle Class Dub Volume Two ) soon to be released, as well as curating the compilation album
project, Dub Save The Queen marking the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Spotted by Rob da Bank in his home town of East Dulwich Sly and Reggie and The Middle Class Sound System come to Bestival with a booming
reggae heart.
