Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band
When The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band formed to play black dance music from the gramophone era, most of the group couldn’t play an instrument. Three gruelling years later they’ve beaten their way through over 500 gigs to become the most notorious, drunkest, louchest, rockingest, hellraising jazz band on the circuit. "The Spasms get to grips with the soul of the music through riotous trumpet, rasping sax and by being heroically, Biblically drunk. This, my friends, is the authentic sound of New Orleans. Possibly during the hurricane.” Nightshift Magazine
Highlights include a triumphant headline set at Oxford Carnival, performances at Glastonbury Festival and Notting Hill Carnival as well as sessions on Mark Lamarr’s BBC Radio 2 show God’s Jukebox.
Their first LP Year of the Rabbit was released this year. The album documents a year in the life of a busy touring band, travelling the byways of Britain, from Northern Working Men’s Clubs to run-down towns and holiday camps on the South Coast, via the nightlife of London’s Limehouse between the wars.
